Gentle surf lapping the beach

Just returned from the first visit of the year to the seaside. Temps in the 40s and strong sunlight seem by contrast to these last months tropical. Clearly the beach underwent quite a beating this winter. Much of the sand washed away, leaving behind pebbles, uprooted shrubs, driftwood, manmade detritus. Nothing green in sight, but as the season advances that will change. Gentle surf lapping the beach. A haze in the sky, an island silhouetted at the horizon, crunch of sand and gravel underfoot.
